Philosophy

JACAD’s mission is to promote a better understanding of modern Africa by analyzing historical and emerging community development issues that shape the transformation of the continent and its people.

General Submission Rules

Authors should know that JACAD accepts only manuscripts that have not been published anywhere or are currently under review at another journal. Submit all manuscripts, whether research papers, commentaries, or book and film reviews, to jacad@pacaf.org

Roundtables/ Special Issues

Book Review

Book reviews should explain the book’s main argument, including an analysis of its strengths and weaknesses and its significance to the field. Your review should not be more than 1000 words. All text must be double-spaced and in Times font (12 point). Include your name and institutional affiliation at the end of the essay. To review a book, choose a book from the Books for Review page and contact the editorial assistant for the book’s availability. Once the request is made, the book will be available.

Formatting Requirements

  • Submitted articles should be at least 4000 words, a maximum of 7000 words, 25 double-spaced pages, and notes (in 12-point Times font).
  • Manuscripts, including tables, figures, appendices, etc., must be submitted as a single MS Word file (PDF files are not accepted) to jacad@pacaf.org
  • All manuscripts should include an abstract of about 200 words at the head of the main text immediately after the title.
  • Include a short biodata of about 100 words containing the author’s full name, title, current affiliation, and research interest. This biodata will be removed before your article is sent out for review.
  • The citation style for references JACAD recommends APA 7th edition.
  • All margins (left, right, top, and bottom) should be 1 inch, including your tables and figures.
  • Authors who intend to reproduce materials in their manuscripts for which they do not hold copyright should obtain necessary permissions before their accepted manuscripts are published.
  • Manuscripts must be in English, either American or British.
  • If figures are included, use high-resolution figures.

Review Process

JACAD will seek two anonymous external reviewers to evaluate all manuscripts submitted for consideration and make the reports available to the authors within two or three months of submission. Authors will pay 5000 to have their articles reviewed.  If the reports are favorable, contributors will be given one month to submit a revised copy of their manuscripts. Authors whose articles have been accepted for publication must pay thirty thousand naira to Patience and Claudius 1228559873 Zenith Bank. Contributors will receive and approve the copyedited and page-proof copies of their manuscripts before publication.

Rights for Authors

Authors will receive an electronic copy of the issue in which their articles appeared. Authors retain copyright but grant exclusive first publication rights and a non-exclusive license to have the work reproduced in other ways, including in electronic databases, books, and online.
