Vincent Igwe, nicknamed “One in Town, ”was born in Umuja in Umunakanu Ama, Ehime Mbano, Imo State, Nigeria, on July 7, 1929, which means he is 95 years old. He is now retired.
Growing up in a colonial society with limited opportunities, Vincent wanted to be a bicycle repairer and achieved the dream of becoming a well-sought-after professional in bicycle repair. During his active years, he lived in various places as a bicycle repairer, such as Aba, Benin, Port Harcourt, Umuahia, Abiriba, Okigwe, Ikwerre, Arochukwu, and currently in Umuja, Umunakanu. He also worked as a block molder within Ehime Mbano. Those jobs helped him to earn a living, build a house, get married, and raise his children. Of all the places he lived, he considered Aba as the most memorable because he lived there for long and had many friends there. His favorite hobby is dancing, and he enjoys dancing and listening to traditional singers like Osadebe and Oriental Brothers. He is married to Phoebe Anaetugo from Umueze 1 and is blessed with four children named Chinenye, Oluebube, Favour, and Uchechi. He loves to watch football. He is passionate about education and regrets that he did not further his education. He attended St. Mathias School Umunakanu and dropped out of class two for financial reasons. He also obeyed his teachers, parents, guardians, and all elders in the community. Mr. Vincent lived an upright life, never intimidated anyone, easygoing, never told lies, and kept his hands clean. According to Vincent, the most rewarding aspects of his career were learning as an apprentice and opening his own business.
